Lydia Joyner wrote Sunny Lane based on the experiences she had with her cousin growing up. Lydia is using her story to raise awareness about abused and neglected children. She is using this film as her platform to show that you can have a silent childhood with shame and guilt, but you can use your voice to tell your story when you are ready.
The more we talk about our experiences, the more we will learn about each other. It is a very lonely feeling to keep secrets inside. For the longest time I thought I was the only child abused. I felt like the world was so big and I existed as a small particle. When I found other people like me, I had other people I could relate to, I wasn’t alone anymore. I can’t for another second allow the children of the world to be so alone. It makes everyone suffer, because those children become adults. We need to take care of one another from the start. If we are all talking and understanding, we could stop it before it starts. – Lydia
